Interactive Science Notebooking is a method of instruction in classrooms with limited resources. Science Notebooking requires items such as scissors, tape, glue sticks, coloring pencils, markers, colored paper for making foldables and a heavy duty pencil sharpener. These resources will be used to create foldables, diagrams, pictures and study guides to add into their interactive notebook. Students will use the the Interactive Notebooks created by the materials supplied to incorporate class notes and materials created during class time and from homework assignments.
Interactive Notebooking provides evidence of teaching and learning. Students need textbooks in mastering the concepts taught. Our state has not adopted textbooks in over 10 years our students need concrete evidence of teaching and learning therefore science notebooks serve as their textbooks. Furthermore, as educators we are required to teach standards and our students must master the objectives with proficient scores at the end of the semester.
An Interactive Science Notebook allows students to keep all classwork and homework in their notebook and is easily accessible without the bulk of a textbook. More importantly the notebook provides a manipulative created by the students filled with diagrams, pictures, charts and study guides that are important for mastery without extra data.
