I work in a low income inner city school. 90% of our student body is on free or reduced lunch. My students depend on school for more than just an education, they depend on school for meals, consistency and for many it is their safe place. Our classroom is comprised of students from Kenya, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Spain, Guatemala, South Sudan and the United States. I have students who are English language learners, some who have only been in the United States for a year or two; who are not only learning basic fourth grade material, but a new language & new customs. We are diverse, we are special & we love every minute of our blended family. In our classroom we take pride in our personal best, we always try, we learn from our mistakes and we are always kind to others. Many of my students don't have much, yet they have so much to give. I am grateful that I get to teach them, learn from them & watch them grow every day!
