Shaw Elementary is a Title 1 school in a rural area of Alaska and is truly a community school. Parents are invited to be partners in their children's education at Shaw Elementary. Many families in our school speak Russian as their first language, and we also have a high population of special needs students. My 5th grade students are active, spend as much time as possible outdoors, and absolutely love hands-on science. The amount of low-income families we have combined with our isolated location make it difficult for students to be exposed to a wide range of science concepts. I make it my mission to increase their science experiences, which also makes school so much FUN! Donating to our classroom projects would truly be a blessing to us and would be greatly appreciated!
