My students are 4th and 5th graders who are enrolled in a district-wide gifted education program. They come together one day each week to participate in programming specifically designed to meet their needs. On "regular" school days, they attend thirteen different schools within our district (public, private, parochial, and home school).
These students are diverse socio-economically (from students who live in subsidized housing and receive free lunch to those who live in million-dollar homes), ethnically/racially (Caucasian, African-American, Asian, Indian), and academically. The students blend into one cohesive group, making friends, interacting with each other, and building connections with students that they would not have had the opportunity to meet if they were not diagnosed with special learning needs that can not be met in their regular classrooms.
