The materials listed will help create a classroom where students can rethink mathematics by connecting their culture and their interests. Future Lessons will include the following: student-centered learning, projects, games, stations, anchor charts etc.
The materials will create an exploratory classroom where students will use critical thinking skills to solve questions related to Pythagorean theorem, surface area, and volume, conducting surveys to create trend lines, and creating a real-world budget to support financial literacy.
The snacks on my list would help my students that are often hungry before and after lunch. The markers, colored pencils, and constructions paper would allow my students to create projects to show their mastery of the 8th-grade math materials. The measuring tape and rulers will be used in exploratory lessons to determine the Pythagorean Theorem and surface area. All of the materials would be used to create an environment where students are the center of their learning
My student's outcome will be to connect their culture and interest into learning and understanding of 8th-grade math. The outcome goal is not just to increase their academic skills but their social and emotional skills; which will equip them with lifelong skills perfect for adulthood.
Help give these brilliant students the tools to be successful!
