I'm passionate about connecting students with books -- books they choose, books they love, books that change their lives. I've lined the walls of my cozy classroom with bookshelves filled with high-quality, high-interest books, but there is space for more! When students walk into my classroom for the first time, one of their first reactions is, "Can we really read what we want to?" I answer with a resounding yes, and then we get to work finding books that match the student. I am constantly on the lookout for novels, non-fiction, poetry, drama that will entice my students off their phones and into the world of literature -- in all its forms. And it works. Students repeatedly tell me that they read more when they are given plenty of choices, they read more when they are given time to read in class, they read more when they are in a classroom filled with books.
