My students are beginning and transitional readers. Some of these books will benefit them while reading independently. They are meant to help them practice longer texts and allow them to strengthen their reading stamina so they can be ready for early chapter books. I've also selected books by amazing second grade authors to fill our library with accessible books that will help my students open the door to the love of reading. some will also serve when we study fairy tales around the world. We read about them and write about their similarities and differences. We learn about the cultures where these fairy tales come from and gain understanding on big themes that run across countries and languages. Overall, the variety of books is meant to help them when we complete our "writing about reading" opinion writing unit. All of these books have something in common: they allow children access to a variety of literature that will strengthen their reading and writing abilities.
