I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker providing therapy in a middle school setting. I am seeking to provide new tools for students to work through the trauma and anxiety they have been dealing with over the last 2.5 years through this pandemic. This assortment of items will allow me to work with students to process trauma and other social-emotional and mental health needs using sand tray techniques. In this approach, clients build a representation of their emotional world in a small sandbox by arranging a wide variety of miniature items in the sand. The ideal collection of miniatures for this approach would include:
Everything that is in the world
Everything that has been
Everything that can be
I have attempted to include the largest variety of items in each of the recommended categories, which explains the wide assortment of miniature figures I am requesting.
This expressive therapy method can work well with a wide variety of students and offers a non-verbal approach that can help reach a group of students that is typically difficult to engage in talk therapy. In the past, the cost has prohibited me from being able to utilize this tool and I hope with this grant I will be able to offer another way of connecting with students to help them heal.
