I am a Reading Specialist at a Title 1 school. My students are all struggling readers. When students struggle with reading, they need to develop foundational reading skills in order to succeed in the classroom. Struggling readers develop different strengths and weaknesses. In order to teach all of my students the skills that are needed, I need a variety of activities that are engaging and hands-on.
Reading is one of the most fundamental skills children need in order to succeed in school and in life. By offering my students a variety of texts to read, they will be motivated to read. Motivation to read plays a big part in developing comprehension skills.
Students also need to read books on their reading level. By having a leveled library, my students will be able to choose a book that is just right for them.
My students will use these literacy materials such as magnetic letters and magic boards in the classroom to build these reading skills. This will motivate them to be successful in all areas of school and life!
