Most of my students are from a very rural town. Many never venture outside of our community. When I show them the world that exists outside our community through books and the internet, they light up with excitement. Many are being raised by people other than their parents and now in my 20th year at their school, they know I鈥檓 someone they can depend on. My children went to this school and one of my favorite times is when the friends of my son, Davis, called me 鈥淢rs. Davis鈥 mom鈥.
In the library, I get to see all our students and the positive impact they could receive from a "MakerSpace" Lab is enormous. I love that. I want to help prepare them for the real world by providing a "Makerspace" lab. This type of lab can be described as a place where young people have an opportunity to explore their own interests; learn to use tools and materials, both physical and virtual; and develop creative projects. I need things for this space.
The items I need are to promote exploration, creativity and building. Legos, tan-grams, Lincoln logs, tablets for augmented reality, yarn, game boards... the list is a mile long. I can't forget storage devices as well. This is where I need your help. Please support the creation of my Pk-8th grade student's MakerSpace Lab. Thank you!
