I partnered with Greenlight bookstore to provide author visits. Last year we had Jason Reynolds, David Barclay Moore, Keely Hutton and Sarah Moon. During school hours students read books in advisory and participate in an author visit where students have a chance to ask questions directly to the author. For most students this is their FIRST TIME meeting an author. Bookworms, the after school book club is where students self select to read books and meet weekly to discuss them for two-three hours. During the book club we do writing prompts inspired by the book, read aloud, and have a student lead discussion about the chapters we read at home. We read books by authors of color and students choose books that they want to read as a club from a curated list. In the book club snacks, beverages, journals for writing entries and folders are provided for each student. We read Young Adult and adult books.
