We are an urban, public, K-5 elementary school in California which serves kids and families from every walk of life. My students are diverse ethnically, financially, and academically. Many of my students come from homes where English is not the primary language, and often there is no one at home to help with homework. Fifth grade is a critical step for these students. For some, it is their last year at the only school they have known since they began their education. It is our last opportunity, as a school, to insure these children have the skills and strategies they need to be successful in their future education. With students working anywhere from 2 grades below grade level to 2 grades above, it is essential to have independent work stations that make the curriculum accessible to ALL my students.
