I teach first grade to twenty energetic and loving boys and girls in a school that is only seven years old. My class has a mixture of students; some who are very tech savvy and some who only get to use technology while at school. The students in my class love to read and explore. Our day is full of meaningful learning and activities that are hands-on and engage the students. Some of our favorite activities are Daily 5 and Guided Math. My students have a love for learning new things and use Daily 5 and Guided Math time as a way to listen to books, explore words and phonics, and practice their addition and subtraction facts. Listening to books is done through a CD/tape player, white boards and magnets are used for word work, and flash cards help the students practice their math facts. Though my students love to be in charge of their own learning, it is difficult to organize and keep the students engaged for an extended amount of time with the materials we currently have.
