Having a guided reading library for Kindergarten, First and Second Grade will support learners at their level, whether they are right on track, delayed or advanced. They will be able to take books to and from school, and can practice reading with their families. Having a library of fiction and non-fiction texts will help my students who often have expressive language needs to expand their vocabulary and communication with others.
Allowing my students access to a library of texts at their reading level would help reinforce and generalize the skills they work so hard on at school. These books would have topics my students are interested in such as animals, lizards, dinosaurs! Motivation and interest would be built into homework, because instead of reviewing what they read in class that day, they can take a different text home and show off their skills!
