This project is aimed at having books to read during small and whole group instructional time. Children with ASD often don't develop these early literacy skills on time or in the same order as typical developing peers. Therefore, it is important to provide students with ASD multiple opportunities and extra practice to learn and eventually master these skills. The use of direct whole and small group instruction, repetition of skills/strategies, and acknowledging achievement (no matter how big) all help motivate students learn basic skills to read!
Exposure to more literacy activities, such as, reading aloud, picture/book walks, and book concepts are important for the developmental process of reading.
