These materials will help my students with our upcoming project which encourages them to creatively use the reading and writing skills covered in our class. My students are motivated and inspired by music and the spoken word, and have produced songs, poetry and stories that are impressive beyond their years. Students have been learning about prefixes, suffixes and rhyme in their ELA classes, and have been experimenting with simple music making software on computers during ELA and music classes.
Students already enamored by music are excited to try applying their newly acquired writing skills to the music software and proudly share their work with peers. With 27 students, headphones are essential in order to allow students to create the content and edit it during class. The speaker system will provide them the opportunity to share their work in front of their peers and get the positive reinforcement so desired at this age. Sharing their work with peers is an essential component to the project, as overcoming the obstacles they face requires them to form a community of learners that supports their diverse backgrounds, interests and experiences.
When my students have the enthusiasm required to produce high quality work and experience meaningful learning, as well as the materials required to be proud of the final product, it is inspiring both to me as a teacher and their younger or struggling peers as mentees!
