My school is in a suburban setting, in an area of high real estate values. We have a very culturally diverse student population and staff. We celebrate our cultural diversity and use it to educate students about the diversity of the world. We have two middle schools that feed into one high school. However, almost 54 percent of the students in my school are eligible for free or reduced lunch, so we have economic concerns. Recent state budget cuts had necessitated in furlough days and special programs had been scaled back and are still not fully funded. We emphasize the importance of education as a way to empower themselves and the communities they live in.
