To help my students learn amid the pandemic, I could use recourses to get them motivated and excited about reading. The community I work in is a wonderful community that loves and supports each other. The school is thriving, but that is the only thing in our town, a school. That is both a beautiful thing and also a barrier for many as they do not get the opportunity for life experiences.
I love to help my students experience the world through literature as many of them do not have the means to experience it otherwise. I know words are important and as the students become stronger readers I love to see each of them empowered by their own words and the words of other through good books. The pandemic has widened that gap for lower class students and books may be the only way they can experience the world.
The books for this project will be placed in my classroom library. The classroom library has become more and more important during the pandemic because our librarian is not able to do her job, as she is subbing very frequently making the library closed. These books will be in the hands of students immediately and inspire them to keep reading and dreaming. I also have two books selected for multiple copies as I would love to use them as a whole group project.
