My students are noted as the 'hardest working kids in the city' for they arrive at school by 7:30am, don't leave until 4:15, call teachers at night for homework help, attend school during the summer and on some Saturdays. My students already have their sights set on college, and have the tenacity it will take for them to get there. Furthermore, many of them will be the first member of their family to attend and graduate from college. On California standardized tests, my students consistently outperform students with more technology, money, and educational resources. They are a part of a movement which proves that neither socioeconomic status nor race determine academic ability. They prove, day in and day out, that grit and hard work are truly what make a scholar. My students recognize that education is their key to the life of choices that they want for themselves.
