The second-grade students I teach are primarily English language learners and considered at-risk. Our school is a Title One funded public school, located in the central area of the city. Although it may sound bleak, our classroom is nothing of the sort. The students are eager to learn, happy, and are supportive of each other. They enjoy engaging activities, having fun (while learning, or course), and laughing. The utmost concern for these students arises from their limited English background, which hinders there comprehension abilities.
