Returning to school is going to be a bit different this 2020-2021 school year. My goal with this project is to make students feel safe and comfortable. Usually kindergartners are provided with space at both a large carpet and spacious table. This year we are looking at basic desks and no carpet time. This project will give students the flexibility to have their own yoga mat to sit and wiggle around and also a scoop chair to cozy up to while listening to directions or a story.
Both items are developmentally appropriate for a 5 and 6 year old child to learn from! I want students to feel like they have their own spot in the classroom to call their own. The yoga mats will give students a chance to lay on their bellies or sit up and use a clipboard to work. The flexibility will meet a variety of learners needs. I do hope to provide them with lap desks as well as we get into the school year.
I think students will truly enjoy still being able to have their "rug time" but from their own yoga mats with their special scoop chairs! I think kindergarten will be a special year for them this year and the classroom setting is going to play a major role in welcoming them to their first year of public school.
