I teach in a low-income rural school district in Illinois. My students have a strong background in farming and the agriculture industry that surrounds our community. As many students live on farms or are involved in agriculture, we also have many kids who don't have the same interests and would like to explore many areas. As for my 5th graders, it is a fantastic age to explore interests that will guide them for their future. They are hard-working students who thrive with hands-on, engaging activities. The positive attitudes of the students and staff in my district is contagious and I love being able to offer these students opportunities to explore the world whether it be by internet or through reading! My classroom is a place to nurture creativity in each and every student.
