The city of Chesapeake has added coding as part of the all-important "Profile of a Graduate" in Virginia. The Virginia Department of Education went to companies and asked them, "When our students get out of school, what do you want/need them to be able to do to get hired by your company?" After all, that is the goal, right? We want our students to grow and learn and come back to our communities. The Virginia Department of Education came up with we have called the "5 C's." These traits include communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creative thinking, and civic responsibility. Our city, however, has chosen to go above and beyond, adding "Coding" as a sixth "C."
Technology integration has become a vital portion of educating the 21st-century student, and I need your help to make that happen!
I'm hoping to provide programming robots and tablets to my kinderkids to help enrich our science and math curriculum. Not only will this help us with our STEM initiatives, the tablets and Bee Bots will also be used to enhance literacy development. What fun it will be to program our Bee Bot to "crawl" across a mat to spell our sight words and increase our word knowledge. How cool it will be to sign onto our Raz Kids accounts and read books from a Kindle in our library!
