As a science research sponsor, I try to obtain equipment in my lab that can be utilized by multiple students. This year, almost half of my students' research projects revolved around microbiology. The items that I'm requesting are things that were either used up completely (the petri dish grids and autoclave bags) or things that I know my researchers would have loved to have had access to (the colony counter). Not only will these items help my research kids but I can use them in my regular and advanced biology classes as well.
I am getting more and more students each year involved in research. So, the money I have for supplies is getting consumed faster and I want to make sure I still have supplies available for these students. Specifically, the display boards that I have are just not enough; that is why I'm requesting two more.
Colleges and universities seem to really like high schools students having experience in hands on research. I like being able to help these students become more competitive in both college applications and real world knowledge (research requires organization and time management, two skills that are critical to life!).
