I am a Special Education Teacher working in a diverse, high poverty neighborhood in Queens within the New York City Public Schools. I have taught a wide range of self-contained classrooms consisting of students with severe and profound disabilities in a more restrictive classroom setting to those who are higher functioning with skills emerging towards a community school setting. Since our school has opened I have seen our students grow and succeed over the years. This year, I am fortunate enough to be working with our students who have transitioned to an inclusion setting. As their SETSS Provider I am working collaboratively with their General Education Teachers at PS290 to adapt their classwork and provide the support they need to succeed in the general education environment. We have been off to a great year and hope to continue flourishing both academically and socially.
