With some of my classes being 32 it is very difficult to assess students effectively. I just attended a conference where a teacher uses digital recorders like these to have the students practice speaking the target language.
This is a win-win situation for everyone in the classroom. It first allows for the students to present in a less stressful environment, allowing them to record and erase themselves as they feel necessary. It also gives them an opportunity to hear themselves speak to make any necessary future self-corrections. They also are able to share a conversation with classmates in a less intimidating environment allowing them to listen as many times as necessary to ensure understanding.
The teacher, in turn, is able to have every student participate in one class period to better assess the speaking in the target language preparing them for the state checkpoint exams. These recorders will also provide more opportunity for students to speak making their language skills more prevalent upon graduating high school.
