Why do we need an iPad in speech?
Have you ever tried to keep 4 Kindergarten-Second grade students entertained at a single time for 30-45 minutes? It's not the easiest task in the world, and although they love to play a good old fashioned board game, they love technology and iPad's even more. The smiles on their faces when they are able to play a game on my iPhone is so large, that I can only imagine how it will be if they were to play it on an iPad.
Having an iPad in our speech room will increase the motivation of my students to work hard towards their speech and language goals. In today's society technology is so important, so not only will they be able to use their iPad to work on their speech goals, but it will also help to increase their ability to use technology outside of the 4 walls we call 'Speech'. Because my students come from homes with low socioeconomic status', they may not have a computer or tablet at home, so having one in the speech room will bring extra joy to their 30-45 minute sessions. With the iPad, my students will be able to access some of the following apps: Articulation Station, Speech with Milo and Visuals2Go, to work on all of their speech and language goals (i.e. articulation, fluency, language, pragmatics, picture communication).
