My students live in the center of the Silicon Valley, yet come from a lower socioeconomic background. Many of them are first or second-generation immigrants, quite a few will be the first person in their family to graduate from high school.
With that said, my students are bright, creative, and determined.
They work-hard, striving to meet the goals set before them. They don't just work hard for themselves, but also for their families and peers. My students work as a tight-knit community that becomes their second family. One of my favorite things about teaching these kids is seeing that when they have finished their task, "who can I help" is the first thing they ask.
