Since we returned to school in person, teachers really have to think outside of the box to create a fun and safe learning environment. Physical education is going to be extremely challenging to teach because we do not have enough equipment for each student to have their own. The use of the pedometers will help the students and myself take our classes to a different level of learning. They will be able to see not only how many steps they take, but also be able to see how many calories they have burned as well as how many miles they completed. The information collected from the pedometers will be used in their health classes so they will be able to connect their physical education class to their health class to deepen connections about their health.
The pedometers will also help me incorporate integrated learning across all subjects, especially with math, as I can create word problems as well as have students find the class average of steps, and many more activities. I will tailor activities around step counting /milage giving the students a goal to hit for each class, as well as competing with the other classes in their grade level and even school wide.
