Reading is so much more than just sounding out words. Reading is thinking, thinking about our experiences and how they relate to the text at hand. Reading is interactive. We should be encouraging readers to share their thinking in order to stretch their thinking abilities. Readers grow from one another far more than from an individual teacher. The items in my project are meant for small group practice. Scholars will be able to read the provided passages and use the teacher taught strategies to gain understanding. Readers will be able to practice language and phonics skills in a game setting in an engaging game format. These language and phonics skills are imperative to help them to become stronger readers as well as writers. These items will save time because they have been carefully arranged to focus on a specific strategy, this will allow me to meet with more students and give more instruction. The organization of these items will ensure that no time is wasted and scholars are maximizing their time. I can't wait to have more time to engage my scholars and teach them how to learn from one another in an effective manner.
Readers are leaders. I plan on turning 180 school days into a class full of leaders. With these organized items that are focused on must learned reading strategies, the sky is the limit.
