My 18 first graders are a diverse and excited group of learners. They are learning to read and come in every day ready to tell stories and share ideas. They come mostly from lower income homes but our expectations are as high for them as they are for all students, and many have had to work twice as hard to get up to grade level standards. Many are ESOL students.
