Throughout every lesson, I try to provide opportunities for my students to be independent. Anything I can allow them to do I will. With the adapted scissors, the students will be able to cut paper without hand over hand from an adult. Because my students have physical disabilities, on top of cognitive disabilities, tasks such as cutting can be extremely difficult.
Students who demonstrate aggressive behaviors are trying to tell us something. They are trying to tell us they need help regulating their bodies. One way to help our students do this, is by giving them more opportunities for sensory integration. The beanbag, sensory light, and sensory bins will help my students to calm their bodies and to regulate themselves. Without the help of different materials, they cannot do this on their own. We often create our own sensory bins, but would love to have real ones to use. We also asked for instruments and sensory paint. My students need hands on projects for learning. In order to create hands on projects and lessons, we need help gaining these materials.
