The computers being requested will help bridge the gap in technology this pandemic has caused my students. Each of these computers will help give my students access to the untold resources companies and other educators have released to the public, to help continue successful learning at home. Without access to these computers, my students have been placed at a significant disadvantage. All they have been offered are paper packets and resources that we have created for them. These resources are offered with written instructions, no differentiated lessons, no resources that play to their learning styles and strengths, and no access to the technology they so desperately need in order to succeed. These laptops will help bridge the continuously widening gap this pandemic has made even deeper.
By placing this technology in my students' hands, I will be able to bring the classroom and their classmates to them, reigniting their drive to learn and ending the isolation that paper resources alone have started to create.
Websites, such as Newsela, would continue to provide me with the resources needed to differentiate reading levels for different assignments I obtain from this website. However, now, with access to these computers, I can bring each students' ideas together in our Google Classroom or on a Zoom session where we can share and create as a class. We can begin to work together to edit our writing assignments or work together to create opportunities to increase our mathematical knowledge by learning how to code. The learning, while utilizing these computers, would not stop after distance learning. Once we're back in the classroom, these computers will continue to be utilized to enhance my students' lives. No longer will we have to sign out computers from the library meant for many K-8 classrooms. We would use them every day.
