The best way to describe my students is "hidden gems." Students attend an alternative school for many different reasons. The biggest misconception about students who attend an alternative school is that they are all the "naughty" or "bad" kids. My students are most definitely not "bad" and are often teased and mocked for attending this school. I have students who attend because they were severely bullied at their home school, were often "lost in the crowd", consistently truant, their home school wouldn't take them in the middle of the semester, or their sibling attended here. No matter the reason for coming, my students know that they have a family here.
