Pretend play is so important for our little learners. When children engage in pretend play, they are learning language skills and are exposed to new vocabulary, problem solving, self regulation, and core content by acting out real life experiences. Research shows that play develops physical, cognitive, social and emotional domains in a child. It promotes higher level thinking skills, creativity, and working with a team. I want to provide a rich variety of materials to build on their language, vocabulary and problem solving skills during free choice time. I am asking to get toys for dramatic play such as a kitchen set, dress up clothes, a map rug, a variety of different blocks for building, and cars. Through these materials, students be able to use their imagination and creativity to learn about the world. Students will be able to apply skills that they have learned in class and apply them in authentic situations or make believe situations. As their teachers, I can observe different social interactions and help model how to handle situations such as conflict resolution and problem solving. Play is essential for a child's development. If research shows kids learn best from play, why not incorporate more play into our day? Fred Rogers once said, 鈥淧lay is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.鈥
