I teach fifth grade students that are bursting with the potential to become more than they - or even their parents - know to dream about. If you walked into my classroom you would see faces with the precious combination of priceless trust and budding self-confidence, as well as wonder and eager anticipation to learn (though, admittedly, that eager anticipation can sometimes be masked by a desire for lunch recess). Our small school campus in located in a California suburb and is surrounded by a high school, a community cemetery, apartments, and homes. My classroom of 30 students is a wonderful combination of many ethnicities, varied levels of English-speaking students, and rich personalities. They are respectful, witty, and keenly aware that they will serve as the finest role models to all the younger grades that our school has had yet!
