As we enter into our second year of teaching during COVID, students and teachers continue to be required to wear masks throughout the entirety of the school day. Teaching with a mask on makes it difficult to be heard without straining my voice. I am requesting a wireless headset to wear with my mask so I can be heard by all students throughout my classroom.
My students will be able to engage in their learning more easily when they are able to hear. Additionally, being able to clearly hear and engage in learning will increase student understanding.
Another factor in increasing student engagement and understanding is access to a variety of materials. I have included a set of books from the "I Survived" series in order to engage more students in reading. At the fourth-grade level, students are expected to read one chapter book each week. My students are highly interested in the "I Survived" series, but do not have access to these books. Having these books in the classroom would allow them to meet their reading goals, while engaging in a series they enjoy.
I have also included math manipulatives, including place value disks. Many of my students would benefit from hands-on learning opportunities. Using place value disks would allow my students to physically manipulate the numbers to help them understand the concept of regrouping, as well as adding and subtracting through the millions. These manipulatives would also support hands-on and visual learners in understanding concepts such as comparing numbers to the millions. All of the resources included in my request are an integral part in meeting the needs of my learners.
