This project is about student engagement & success! These 15 requested Chromebooks will support all of my learners in all units for years to come. Consistent access to technology in the classroom will lift the level of engagement & support for so many students. The result will be meaningful (& useful) daily successes, improved self-esteem, & more opportunities. Laptops + Access= SUCCESS! Some ways laptops will support students: * Efficiency: drafting & revising directly in Google Docs- a smarter way to work- no more handwriting drafts in class and wasting time typing them at home. * Creativity: countless options would be available for creating slideshows, Prezis, videos, storyboards & podcasts. * Engagement: interactive map programs, educational games, & virtual trips can be incorporated into the curriculum- pack your bags! * Collaboration: partners can work together in-class using online programs & supports instead of home alone, completing tasks for HW. * Feedback: sharing work with me electronically means faster, individualized support. * Research: more productive & less of an exercise in futility! In-class access to online databases like Opposing Viewpoints, the African-American Experience, & Newsela (who curates over 30 newspapers at 5 different reading levels) will guarantee students will find useful, trustworthy information on a range of topics o * Critical thinking: researching & writing in class will enable me to help students develop skills immediately, not the next day when progress may have stalled if they are alone! *Audiobooks: in-class access to supportive programs like Bookshare & Learning Ally eliminates the need for the children who require these programs to bring personal, expensive devices to school- less risk for damage/theft. Those who cannot afford these devices won't be left on the sidelines! * Typing: Typing, typing, typing- improved typing abilities!
