Not every student loves school. Reading also, does not come easily to all students. Daily 5 is part of our schedule everyday and part of that is the students spending time reading independently. Having a place of comfort that the students love and want to spend time in, helps the students buy into their own learning and love of literature. Learning to read is a tough job and a little flexibility in the classroom goes a long way.
Bringing the outdoors into the classroom in a comfortable way will give my students a reading area that they can't wait to get to and practice the skills they are learning. These materials will help me to create a space within the classroom that not only makes a reading nook, but will also provide a recovery area to take a breath and relax for students that are feeling overwhelmed in the classroom. Some of my students come to school with a heavy heart everyday, and a mind that is not focused on reading.
Love a Logic teaches us that students sometimes need a minute to collect themselves, before they can contribute to the learning happening around them. These materials will provide that for my students in class and cut down on negative behaviors. More time on task is always one of my goals as the teacher.
