When a school is designing the "blueprint" of a new program there are specific materials needed to ensure success. At this point, we primarily need a range of books filled with ideas related to science, technology, engineering and math. My students need a STEM library that will get them excited to attend class by inspiring them to be active participants in the process of learning.
During the elementary ages it is very important to use books to set the stage for exploration. The books that are purchased will be great resources to help plan specific lessons for my students in each of the different grades levels. Many of the books will be used directly in lessons with a story as a "hook" to inspire my students to question and think of ideas about the standards we will be focusing on. The multicultural books have been carefully chosen to appeal to each of the different grade levels. Several of the picture books have the potential to encourage the children to think of solutions to real world problems. They also focus on different types of STEM-related jobs. These books just might be the spark that leads students to make life-changing, and potentially world-changing, career decisions in the future.
