I want to expose my students to literature that reflects diversity and multi-culturalism. I teach sixth grade language arts in a rural North Carolina school. Our state is becoming more ethnically diverse, but unfortunately the current resources available at my school focus on characters who are white. I want the students at my school to be able to read literature that they can relate to. My students range from learning disabled to academically gifted.
