Authentic. If there's one word to describe a special needs classroom, it's just that: authenticicity. Our kiddo's are always telling us exactly what's on their mind, whether with words or through other forms of communication. They let us know when they're tired, hungry, excited or need to use the bathroom. Together we navigate the lands of little to no verbal skills, while still learning our ABC's and 123's. Every little victory is cause for a huge celebration, whether it's our student saying their name for the first time or letting us know when they need the bathroom after months of potty-training. It's such a priveldge to go in each day and meet each student where they are at. We can connect over the smallest things, and yet they are always teaching me the biggest lesson: be true to myself, and to be kind.
