Percussion instruments are great tools for any student. My first graders begin their journey with with music by learning about dynamics ( how loud or soft a piece of music is). Second grade begins the school year learning about rhythm. My third graders will begin the process of learning how to read musical notes and how to play a piece of music on their own. Percussion can be used for all of these activities!
The variety of these percussion instruments also allows my students to learn about music around the world. Towards the end of the school year, my classes learn about the music, instruments, and musicians of several different countries. Percussion instruments are used in almost every culture. If my students can hold and play these instruments they will better connect to what they are learning.
