With so many concepts and themes to cover, my students are passionate and full of desire to learn more about our diverse world. To foster their love of learning, they need to see relevant examples of the world and themselves in the literature we read. Knowing who they are will be foundational to their sense of self and will motive them to create an impact in our world.
The books in this project will not only introduce my students to rich and relevant text but will also provide opportunities to discuss other cultures and identities. Exposure to different types of cultures, people, abilities, and issues will foster more empathy and awareness in my students. These books will be used to engage my students in thematic units around race, identity, poverty, environmental sustainability, and activism. This project will give my students with a platform to critically thinking about the world around us and inspire them to be proactive leaders within their communities.
