My students range in age from 11-13 years old but function on a kindergarten to 1st grade level. My students come from the highest poverty level in Brooklyn, many of whom live in shelters. To be able to use the latest technology to learn STEM subjects would give them a huge boost in self esteem. They get very excited when our technology teacher comes in the classroom and are highly motivated to work as hard as they can. My students also have communication difficulties but LOVE to talk about video games. It is my hope that engaging them with educational games will encourage them to talk not only to adults more, but also to their peers. Making requests and peer to peer communication are two of our school wide goals. Motivating my students with technology is one way to achieve this.
