Our students are receiving art instruction for the first time in over 18 years. Most of my students are English language learners, and art is a creative way they can express themselves. Many students did not have art experience previously, either at home or in school. This year I am seeing my students gain confidence in their own abilities through art. Many students were emotional as we started this program, feeling as if they couldn't draw or create art. As we have worked together, they have gained skills that are making them feel successful and proud. I have seen their attitudes towards our class change from nervous to excited, and they have such enthusiasm for their art work.
