The students in my therapy sessions are all profoundly disabled and non-verbal. They use pictures to communicate. We have pictures of a variety of things (objects, actions, activities, location, etc.) The pictures are copied, placed on select colored tiles, and velcro is then placed on the back of the tile. The pictures can then be used on spinners, calendars, individual wheelchair trays, daily schedules, communication books, classrooms, etc.
My students rely solely on tactile picture communication cards to express their wants, needs, answer questions, participate in lessons and to share experiences.
Communication is a right of every individual, regardless of their abilities or disabilities.
