As the science teacher, I am excited to lead our school's indoor gardening club, which will enable students to both grow and maintain plants within our entire school. The club will have six smart, courageous, eager and loving students with severe and multiple disabilities including autism. These six students have a range of different needs regarding retention, sensory, communication, behavioral, fine motor, and daily living skills. They learn best from hands-on experiences and activities, particularly ones that allow them to see the product of their hard work.
My goal is to teach science courses in our club, educate my students about plant organism lifecycles and engage them in intensive hands-on gardening tasks that will help them improve their fine motor skills. My end goal is to provide them with enduring knowledge and aide them in becoming more independent, while also focusing on their individual needs.
