Living in a small town somewhat isolated on the coast, my students don't have the same access to experiences that students in larger cities do. I personally know this because I was raised in this small town and attended the very Middle School I now teach at. Once my students walk through the doors of my classroom, I want them to feel inspired and excited to learn about science without any limits.
Each student in my class should feel like they have the tools, knowledge, and ability to succeed in their futures, regardless of what they experience at home. My students come from varying backgrounds, with 71% coming from socioeconomically disadvantaged homes, 42% Hispanic, and even 6% considered homeless. My classroom has many personality levels and skill levels. I want my students to individually feel that they can succeed no matter what background they came from, and have the proper tools to do so.
