The math that students learn in my classroom requires a lot of graphing and solving equations. My students study over 20 graphs and sometimes it is quite a task remembering all of the graphs. The students sometimes do not have enough graph paper to use for every assignment.
Even high school students like to color and when we graph equations using color it is not so boring to them and helps them to remember what the graphs look like. Trigonometry is one of the more difficult units for them to learn. Having aids such as pre-made grids and quick recall games helps them to review and practice what has been taught.
Many of the students have to be able to picture what the problems says and work it out using tangible objects. Algebra tiles makes it easier for them to understand how terms combine. Also the colored tiles allow them to see the differences between positives and negatives.
